International Community of Women Leaders

Diplomatic Rules of Engagement.

A trusted international community requires clear shared standards. These rules protect respectful exchange, confidentiality and the purpose of ICWL.

Our Shared Foundation

Trust makes meaningful exchange possible.

Every candidate and confirmed member is expected to understand and uphold these principles.

Why These Rules Matter

A clear framework for a diverse international community.

ICWL brings together women with different cultures, professional backgrounds, experiences and viewpoints.

These differences are a source of learning. The Rules of Engagement ensure that conversations remain respectful, constructive and appropriately confidential.

They are not intended to limit honest discussion. They create the conditions in which honest discussion can take place responsibly.

The Five Rules

The standards expected of every ICWL member.

These principles guide participation across applications, meetings, member communication and collaborative work.

01

Respect

Members respect cultural, religious, political and social differences. Every participant is treated with dignity, and disagreement is approached with care, curiosity and good faith.

02

Trust & Confidentiality

Personal stories, sensitive experiences and confidential discussions are not shared outside the community without clear permission. Members are responsible for protecting the trust placed in them.

03

Reciprocity

Membership is based on mutual contribution. Members are encouraged to share insight, experience, time and support as well as to learn from the knowledge of others.

04

Non-Partisanship

ICWL is not a platform for political-party advocacy, electoral campaigning or the representation of any government’s position. Members may bring their own experiences, while respecting the community’s independence.

05

Action-Orientation

Exchange should lead to useful understanding, stronger relationships or thoughtful next steps. The goal is not activity for its own sake, but learning that can create practical value.
